Mature skin

Different signs that show the skin is ageing :

Causes

Like all organs, the skin is subject to ageing.

Skin’s global ageing is the result of two types of ageing : inherent ageing and additional ageing. Genetic factors define the process of inherent ageing (part of the ageing related to heredity), against which we cannot do much. It is an ageing that is programmed. The additional ageing is related to our behaviour and our way of life. It is caused by the impact on the skin of environmental factors to which we are exposed such as : sun, pollution, tobacco, and alcohol.

From the age of 25-30, our skin starts to lose its ability to renew and regenerate. In general, skin ageing accelerates and becomes obvious around the age of 50. Skin then becomes drier, less smooth and thinner little by little. The whole « skin organ » sees its activity diminish : elastic fibres reduce in number and quality : the skin loses its elasticity. Water fixation becomes less efficient : the skin is less plump; it loses its tone and firmness.

Zones where the skin is thin will mark with numerous fine lines while zones where the skin is thick will mark with deeper but fewer wrinkles.

How to take care of it?

Cosmetic products adapted to mature skins must fill different functions :

  • Moisturize, nourish, restore the hydro-lipidic film

  • Protect the skin against external aggressions and the oxidation phenomenon

  • Improve the skin’s microcirculation

  • Reactivate cells’ activity to fight against the loss of tone and firmness

  • Visibly fill wrinkles and fine lines

Health tips :

Minimise external factors of ageing, notably sun and tobacco, and adopt a healthy diet, neither too fat, nor too sweet, and rich in vitamins.

Beauty tips :

Apply your anti-age product on your whole face and neck, once or twice a day, by soft circular massages downwards moving upwards, and from the centre towards the sides. Bring a particular attention to the eye zone : apply a specific product, from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner, and if you have puffy eyes, tap gently to reduce puffs. Refrigerated compresses soaked with lotion are also very efficient. .
